President Bola Tinubu met with the Super Eagles on Tuesday, during which he announced national accolades (Member of the Order of the Niger, MON) for each player, along with a parcel of land and apartments in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a statement released by his Special Advisor on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, President Tinubu commended the team, the coach, the crew, and the entire management for their hard work, assiduity, and sacrifice throughout the tournament.
The delegation to the presidency was led by Senator John Owan Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, and officials from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). Notably, Alex Iwobi, who had been the target of cyberattacks following Nigeria’s loss to Cote D’Ivoire in the AFCON final, was among those in attendance along with representatives from the Super Eagles.
The President acknowledged the hurdles they overcame and their steadily improving performance as they reached the finals.
President Tinubu urged Nigerians to be in good spirits, emphasizing that Nigeria achieved a great victory in the hearts of Africa and the world through grit, rigour, and determination on the field. He encouraged unity and hard work, stating that the nation is bound together by resilience, joy, hope, duty, and untiring love.
Addressing the Nigerian youths, President Tinubu expressed support for those showcasing their talents in communities and playing football. He encouraged them not to relent in their pursuits, assuring them that his administration is committed to making dreams come true.
