Premier League finally approves Ratcliffe’s 25% investment in Man Utd

Following an independent examination, the Premier League has approved Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of a 25 percent share in Manchester United. The official statement confirming the acceptance of Ratcliffe’s minority buyout was released on Tuesday.

According to the statement, “Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s acquisition of 25% of Manchester United FC and further investment of $300 million in the club, has been approved by the Premier League Board following the completion of the Owners’ and Directors’ Test (OADT).” The Premier League Board had previously approved the change in the club’s ownership structure, and the decision has now been formally ratified by an Independent Oversight Panel.

The Premier League Owners’ Charter was also signed during this approval process. This process represents the first acquisition of control reviewed and approved by a new Independent Oversight Panel, following changes agreed upon by Premier League clubs in March 2023.

The statement concluded by stating that the Premier League is now awaiting confirmation of the completion of the transaction. Although Ratcliffe completed the initial deal in December and successfully passed the Premier League’s Directors’ and Owners’ test, the finalization of the transaction is expected next week, pending approval from the Football Association (FA).
