AFCON 2023 Kenneth Omeruo reveals why Nigeria is doing well

Kenneth Omeruo, the Super Eagles defender in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d’Ivoire, has shed light on the team’s success in the tournament.

After defeating Angola 1-0 on Friday, Nigeria secured a spot in the semi-final of the 2023 AFCON.

Despite the impressive display, Omeruo emphasized that he is not letting the success get to his head. The Super Eagles have now won four consecutive games without conceding a goal.

Omeruo, who was brought in by coach Jose Peseiro to replace Ademola Lookman in the fifth minute of stoppage time during the game against Angola, expressed his satisfaction. In the mixed zone, he stated, “I feel good; there is still work to be done, but I’m happy we could win this game because there was a lot of talk from the media and all, but we stayed concentrated. We kept to our game plan, and at the end of the day, we won.”

When questioned about the reasons behind the team’s success, the Turkey-based defender attributed it to the unity among the players and the tactical approach of the coach.

This cohesion and strategic planning have played a crucial role in the Super Eagles’ positive performance in the AFCON tournament.
